Idealists Anonymous

My name is RadicalNOTA and I’m an idealist. I’m here at this Idealists Anonymous (IA) meeting because my idealism is causing my life to unravel and I need to get a grip. I mean, you’d think that after working on environmental policy issues in Washington DC and then here in the South I would have been able to kick the idealism addiction and embrace the pragmatism that is demanded in polite society. But no, I’ve once again fallen off the wagon and started a blog to chase the quixotic dream of transforming our political system to try and make it actually represent and value the wellbeing of the average citizen over the interests of corporate pigs at the government trough.
What the hell was I thinking?! You guys have coffee, right? I’m looking forward to hearing everyone’s stories about your descents into idealism and how you were finally able to stop chasing dreams of making a positive impact and get with the program of fitting in and not making waves. There have to be some good strategies you guys can show me that will allow me to shut off the visions of participatory democracy and peace on earth and ecological sustainability that continue to plague my every waking hour. I’ve think I’ve finally reached rock bottom and I’m ready to ask for help through the 12 step pragmatism program.
You do have smoke breaks during these meeting, right?

The New York Times offers up a story today that doubles as a pointed message to President Obama: It’s headlined “In a Message to Democrats, Wall St. Sends Cash to G.O.P.,” and it amounts to a brushback pitch from bank leaders frustrated with the Obama administration’s regulatory reform push.
Thought that this would help your idealism.
JPMORGAN, of all banks, is distressed that Obama is pushing for regulation???????

Yes, Peter. If you saw my post on Feb. 4 the Wall St. Journal had a very similar article that I wrote about. It really blows my mind that they use language like “buyer’s remorse” in the context of political “donations.” Has it really gotten to the point that they are not even self conscious about describing their influence in such blatent terms? I read this, now I am “desire to be so far detached because I get this confusion that literally makes me dizzy! I am sorry but just thinking about the mess there is to clean up is overwhelming. It’s going to take far longer then our lives will allow us. Right?
They have become so blatent as you stated because people just don’t care…people have been so ripped down through economic means that it seems easier to just bow to the king. Put on the blinders and fill the ears with cotton and follow the bell. I say “SCREW THAT!” I am one of those that literally went from living on a beautiful ranch in California had all the things I could ever want…left it all. Why? Yes personal reasons, but to be given a lesson. I have had so much taken from me as a single parent and now I barely get by. The one thing that keeps me upright is the freedom to know that I have the “power” to change my life at any time I want to put the effort in. (My current actions!) I state all this as an example that no matter what more the government does to destroy its people, we still have the “power” to change it all. Its called “effort”, but with no leadership today to make a movement come around like that, I myself feel lost. What do we do? What “ACTION” can be taken to start the steps? I stated before when I first made a post that I purposly made myself ignorant to politics knowing it was a bunch of BS, untruth after untruth. They will continue to be blatent as long as “WE THE PEOPLE” allow it. Personally, I have to say I feel its so lost that nothing can be corrected. I keep my mind on the focus that is more of a spiritual based one. I see Mother Earth and the forces not even the Government can control will slowly take back what was never theirs in the first place. Earth disasters grow by the year, with Haiti the latest. Yes, it will continue to happen and yes it is a cycle that has come about long before man was even a spark, but things change. With all that said…What action can be taken to begin a change? I welcome the education, that is why I joined this blog….from someone who cares!

I have no help for you here. I have also been a life-long idealist. My short forays into pragmatism have been a disaster as I have recently fallen off that wagon as well. Have fun!

Just don’t drink the shit straight. Mix it up with pragmatism and a twist of delusion. And sip.

“And sip”
That’s the part I have the hardest time with. Never have been much of a sipper. Big bites and big gulps. Everything in moderation… including moderation.
